One of the first photo stories I ever did was about a family struggling to find better living conditions for their kids while facing eviction for an overcrowding violation. They lived in a rental duplex that was infested with roaches and mice. And they felt trapped. They were barely above the poverty line. They didn’t make enough money to buy a house, and yet they made “too much” to qualify for subsidized housing or other relief. After fighting the system they barely avoided eviction and got a larger and much nicer rental.
